The U.S. Cannabis Spot Index decreased 2.2% to $1,009 per pound.
In grams, the Spot price was $2.22.
The U.S. Spot Index declined 2.2% this week to $1,009 – the lowest price so far this year – driven by a nearly 5% decline in the price of greenhouse flower, after last week’s 6% surge.
Despite the decline the greenhouse spot price is still nearly $30 above this year’s low. The outdoor flower spot price was nominally unchanged this week, yet down 7.5% from the beginning of the year.
An analysis of wholesale prices for bulk flower vs. prepackaged flower for the first six weeks of 2024 revealed an average premium of 23% for wholesale purchases of prepackaged flower. This analysis included bulk transactions sold to distributors and white label intermediaries, as well as deli-style dispensaries. Premiums for prepackaged flower – which include grams, eighths, quarters, half and full ounces – ranged, on a per state basis, from 8% to over 41%. States with bulk purchases in the majority included Colorado, Oregon, Michigan and Washington. States with prepackaged purchases in the majority included Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
March 2024 Implied Forward assessed down $5 to $1,045 per pound.
At $1,045 per pound, the March Implied Forward represents a premium of 3.6% relative to the current U.S. Spot Price of $1,009 per pound.
